Sariska Wildlife Park -
One another most popular, beautiful and glorious
beauty of Rajasthan lies her in the Sariska National
Park. It is well nestled in the Aravali Hills which
covered 800 sq area with lush green forest and sheer
cliffs and rocky landscape. Sariska Wildlife
Sanctuary is a very attractive place for shopping in
the surrounding places, visit medieval palaces or
wildlife watching. There are many dhok trees in the
sanctuary that covered almost 90 percent area of the
sanctuary. You can explore a variety of other wild
animals like the leopard, sambhar, chital, nilgai,
four-horned antelope, wild boar, rhesus macaque,
langur, hyena and jungle cats that are usually found
in the Sariska Tiger Reserve diverse from the tiger.
It is the home of india’s largest population of
peafowl, and harbours quail, sand grouse, golden-
backed woodpeckers and crested serpent eagles, among
other species. There are a large number of the
crocodiles on the Siliserh Lake on the edge of the
park.
The Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary, completely covered
with the lush green forest of Dhok, has the history
of the ruins of medieval temples of Garh-Rajor that
date back to the 10th and 11th centuries. A unique
and precious 17th century castle on a hilltop at
Kankwari gives a panoramic view of flying vultures
and eagles. The Sariska was declared a sanctuary in
1955 and attained the status of a National Park in
1979.

This is the only shelter of this Sanctuary of wildlife animals like a number
of carnivores including Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Hyena, Jackal, and Tiger.
There are various categories of wildlife animals in Sariska such as Sambhar,
Chitel, Nilgai, Chausingha, Wild Boar and Langur. This wildlife sanctuary is
also known for its large population of Rhesus Monkeys. You can feel and hear
also many bird species in Sariska Tiger Reserve, namely; Peafowl, Grey
Partridge, Bush Quail, Sand Grouse, Tree Pie, Golden Backed Wood Pecker, Crested
Serpent Eagle and the Great Indian Horned Owl.
There is some other attraction in the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary that must be
explored by a visitor like as the Kankwari Fort with a major historic structure.
This is the fort where Emperor Aurangzeb once imprisoned his brother, Dara
Shikoh. Another major tourist attraction to be explored in the Sariska National
Park is the ancient Neelkanth Temple that has the holy sprite enclosed with it.
The Sariska palace is another tourist destination that can be realized here. It
was built by the Maharajs of Alwar but now it has been converted into a hotel.
Sariska National Park can be visited throughout the year; but still the best
time to have Sariska tour is from October - June and January – February because
the main tracks of jungles are closed during the monsoon and the breeding season
just to safeguard the animals and the reserve. One can explore the beauty also
during April to June and that is ideal to catch-hold of the animals at the
waterholes but If you can tolerate the summer.
How To approach Sariska National Park
By Air: The nearest airport from Sariska National Park is at Jaipur.
By Rail: The nearest railhead is at Alwar at a distance of 37-kms.
By Road: Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the Delhi-Jaipur highway near
Jaipur and Delhi. Sariska is also well connected with Alwar.
