Rajasthan, though a very diverse land is predominantly arid. Nature is not very bountiful in  Rajasthan about 70% of the land is covered by the great Thar desert. The Thar Desert covers the districts of Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Barmer. In this hostile terrain temperature shoots upto 50 degree celsius in the days of summers and equally harsh cool nights.

Despite all travails of   desert life, deserts have their own charm. The sloppy , rippled sand dunes are bewitching .The camel also known as the ship of the desert is a piece of amusement for foreign tourists.

Since living is desert is full of struggle, the people of desert add zest for life using vibrant colors , lilting rhythms and amazing dance forms. Therefore the desert life gives true picture of Rajasthani culture. The desert festival of Jaisalmer is such occasion which showcases the   traditional culture. Men in colourful turbans and women in veil with armful of lac bangles perform some truly outstanding dance movements. The rhythms of folk music persuade you to dance what if you don’t understand the literal meaning of the songs.

Stretches of sand in the desert are interspersed by hillocks , on which mostly forts and palaces are built . Thus desert tours give enough opportunities to explore  the magnificent desert landscape , rich culture and grandeur in  the form of palaces and forts.
